Airport O-Porto in Portugal in January 2011

O-Porto in Portugal is one of the RYANAIR-Bases in Europe. From O-Porto you can reach several destinations in Europe for example Frankfurt-Hahn in Germany, London, Canarian-Islands, Spain, Italy, ... The airport O-Porto looks new and is very nice. For traveler it is possible to stay at the airport over night, if you use O-Porto for a stopover.

How to get low fares with RYANAIR?

RYANAIR has from time to time promotions to attrack their passengers.
Online checkin: checkin is not any more at the airport to a switch, you have already printed out your boarding card at home over the Internet.

Hand-baggage: of course you can take hand-baggage - in this case the weight not more than 10 kg and the size 55 x 40 x 20 cm. If you have normal baggage, like a large suitcase, the flight is much more expensive, and your advantage of a low-cost airline is away.

PRIORITY BOARDING costs 5 € in addition and is recommended!
You get more then a window seat.

Travel insurance: You do not need because of the low price.

Kalixa Prepaid-MasterCard: if you use a Prepaid-MasterCard to book RYANAIR online, it is without charge. For example Kalixa offeres a free Prepaid-MasterCard, you can easily book Ryanair for € zero.

RYANAIR and high costs due to hand-baggage over 10kg

You can get problems with Ryanair at the airport if you have more than 10kg hand-bagage or it is not the size 55 x 40 x 20 cm. All hand-bagage must be placed exactly in such a lattice (see photo). If you do not follow this rules, the price to be paid when booking could more than double.


But, look out! .. the employees of RYANAIR are in control of hand luggage very exactly. At the airport they check the weight and size of yout hand luggage. Some passengers had to pay more from 30 € to 40 €.


On the flight from Girona Costa Brava Airport to Frankfurt-Hahn was a group of female students whose hand-luggage had 10 kg slightly exceeded. RYANAIR did not accepted and demanded the increased fee. Then the students opened their backpacks and put on several pairs of trousers and sweaters, and their hand-baggage was then kg slightly below 10 kg. Then RYANAIR let them into the Boeing 737-800 without additional charge.

An example for a booking with Ryanair

Here is an example - a flight from Germany to Marokko - of a booking with Ryanair on the Internet. If the booking is finished through the Internet, you have payed in a few seconds by VISA-Card or Master-Card and you have booked the flight safely.  And there are no further costs any more. OPORTO airport is well for stopovers

The Portuguese city PORTO has a very nice and modern airport. This airport you can use for flights with RYANAIR also as a stopover.

For the traveler, it is possible to stay over night in the airport, if you will continue to fly the next day. So, if you don't wish to visit PORTO, you need no hotel and can go on wtith your jouney next day.

The city of PORTO itself is a typical Portuguese town. It is a nice city, if you are interested in the traditions of Portuguese ... otherwise better just take the airport for stopovers.
